He was a member of the Victorian committee of ANZAPPL between 1987 and 2010, having first presented a paper to the 4th ANZAPPL Congress in 1984.

Until 2020 he remained a bi-national Committee Member of ANZAPPL but continues to participate actively in ANZAPPL activities.

Dr Freckelton  was elected an Honorary Life Member of ANZAPPL for his services to the Association in 1997.

Dr Freckelton was presented with an ANZAPPL award in 2019 in Singapore for having edited Psychiatry, Psychology and Law for 25 years.

On 1 April 2020 Dr Freckelton steps down from his role as Editor-in-Chief of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, having edited ANZAPPL publications for 31 years since 1989. However, he remains actively involved with the journal as its Foundation Editor.
