Dr Freckelton received the following bursaries and scholarships while he was at the University of Sydney:
In 1994 Dr Freckelton was awarded a Red silk’s bag (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brief_(law); see also P Heary, “Counsel’s Baggage” (2013) 153 Victorian Bar News 88.) by Costigan AO KC for work on the Children of God case.
In 1997 Dr Freckelton was elected to life membership of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law.
In 2007 Dr Freckelton’s Book (co-authored with David Ranson), Death Investigation and the Coroner’s Inquest (OUP, 2006) was shortlisted as Australia’s Scholarly Book of the Year.
In 2007 Dr Freckelton was admitted to the Inner Bar of the Victorian Bar (ie took silk, made Senior Counsel/Queen’s Counsel).
In 2008 Dr Freckelton was elected to Honorary Fellowship of the Australian College of Legal Medicine.
In 2012 Dr Freckelton was elected to Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Law (see http://www.academyoflaw.org.au/ ).
In 2012 Dr Freckelton was appointed an Ambassador for Club Melbourne (see http://www.clubmelbourne.com.au/ ).
