From 1 July 2013 Dr Freckelton AO KC was appointed an Adjunct Professor in the Law Faculty at Monash University, at the time that he took up an appointment as a Professorial Fellow in Law and Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne.

He concluded this role in 2016.

From May 2014 Dr Freckelton was also appointed an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine at Monash University.

Between 2008 and 2013 Dr Freckelton  was a part-time Professor in the Law Faculty and in the Medical Faculty in the Departments of Forensic Medicine and in the School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine at Monash University.He was also the Vice-President of the International Institute of Forensic Studies auspiced by the Law Faculty. Dr Freckelton  was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Forensic Studies at Monash University, launched by the then Justice Michael Kirby:

Between 2008 and 2013 Professor Freckelton  was closely involved with the research team involved in the Rethinking Mental Health Law Project (http://www.law.monash.edu.au/rmhl/), run by Federation Fellow Professor Bernadette McSherry. He was the Vice-President of Monash’s Centre for the Advancement of Law and Mental Health (http://www.law.monash.edu.au/calmh/) .

Dr Freckelton taught the following postraduate subjects at the City Campus for the Law Faculty:

  • Expert Evidence;
  • Health Law and Human Rights;
  • Death, Disease and the Law; and
  • Advanced Torts.

He also taught Civil Issues in Forensic Psychology for D Psych students.

For many years Dr Freckelton has given guest lectures in the “Forensic Medicine” course, originally created by Professor Louis Waller.
